- All employees to be instructed and made aware of all relevant Site Safety procedures, take
reasonable care for your own health and safety and that of other persons who may be affected by
your acts. Report any unsafe situations to your supervisor, co-operate and comply with any safety
instruction given by the Safety Committee and to obey Safety advisory and warning signs erected in
all areas.
Toolbox talks will be conducted at regular intervals and as determined on site to allow you to discuss
safety issues with your co-workers and management and for the implementation and training using
Safe Work Method Statements as guidelines for the continual improvement of safe work practices.
- Electric leads (must be rated at 15 amps) and power tools, visually inspected for damage, meter tested
with a MEGGAR for shorts between conductors, checked for insulation resistance and checked for
correct polarity. A monthly register of tested leads and appliances must be maintained and a
relevant coloured tag fitted prior to use. Leads should be supported clear of floor by use of stands
with insulated hooks and pass through an insulated opening at the distribution board.
Power supply to leads and/or appliances must originate and be confined to the same floor being
worked on. Turn power leads off at general-purpose outlet when not in use or disconnect from source.
- No work is ever to be carried out in a live state where you have exposure or the potential risk of
coming in contact directly with energized conductor ends , terminals or links on any apparatus
such as, but not limited to, Distribution Boards, links, lighting, switches, appliances, electrical
sockets, plugs, termination points and cabling. Source of power supply must be de-energised by switching off the relevant Circuit Breaker / Main Switch, locked off with an approved locking device (lock dog) fitted with a padlock and Danger Tagged, warning of a potential risk of death to person if operated.
A licensed electrician must check all conductors with test lamps or a meter (check test lamps / meter operation in a live socket immediately prior to testing circuits being worked on!) and if necessary but not exclusively also with a test pencil, for a de-energised (dead) state.
As a precaution, once licensed electrician is certain that apparatus cannot be re-energised and made alive either manually or automatically (i.e. time delay switch or relay), circuits being worked on should also be tested by any individual persons also working on circuits, as personal reassurance. When the circuit is ready to be energized, only the electrician whose name appears on the Danger Tag is allowed to remove the Tag and the Locking Device. A Foreman / Supervisor or Project Manager employed by All State Electrical Services is authorised, when the person above is not available, to thoroughly investigate and test the circuits locked off and reassure himself and other tradesmen involved and only then remove it along with the locking device and turn on and reset the circuit breaker / main switch.
